Darius is the Medean general, who is appointed king of Babylon by Cyrus The Great, following Bel-Shazzar’s overthrow; A civilized ruler, he reacts with aversion when false rumors of the Mede’s alleged cruelty circulate.

Darius’s desire to keep Babylon thriving is revealed when he sends Daniel upriver to convince the merchants, who’ve stopped coming to Babylon, that they will be safe to trade there. Darius appoints Daniel as his high minister in order to bring back the thriving days of Nebuchadnezzar in Babylon. These are different times, however, and Babylon is marred by sectarian violence, induced by the priesthood of Marduk.

In an effort to curb this, Darius heeds the advice of certain advisors, unaware they conspire with the priesthood. He issues a decree that states the worship of any god is prohibited by anyone. When Daniel is accused of supplication to his God by a spy, Darius is reluctantly forced to issue a death sentence to Daniel in the way of throwing him into the lions’ den. When Daniel survives overnight, Darius is quick to free him from the den of lions.

“The Exile” is a three-part film project based on the book of Daniel and the events surrounding remnant Israel’s seventy year exile in Babylon. Following in the tradition of Ben-Hur, this biblical epic fuses together the sub-genres to which “The Passion of the Christ” and “Gladiator” belong. The story carries the gospel message from a unique perspective, the events within it occurring hundreds of years before Jesus Christ’s sacrificial death and resurrection.
